Jasem Al-Azawi

Bio

Jasem Al-Azawi joined Al Arab News Channel as news anchor and presenter of the “Last Word”, a weekly political show. When Aljazeera English was launched on Nov. 2006, he presented a weekly political show called “Inside Iraq”. For five years the show tackled one of the most complex and multi-layered political crises of his times, the war on Iraq. The show interviewed senior American, Iraqi and European decision-makers and discussed the politico-military and social issues gripping Iraq. Through town hall meetings in Washington, Cairo, and Amman the show also served as a platform for interaction between politicians, analysts, and ordinary people. The show is viewed by media commentators as one of the best sources for creative analyses, controversial viewpoints and insightful debates of opposing opinions. For over ten years he taught at Aljazeera Media institute aspiring presenters as well as seasoned ones. Courses included new presentation, talk show hosting and how to deal with the media. Students also included government officials, businessmen and social activists.

Experience

• In 2003, Jassim covered the events following the occupation of Iraq for six weeks through public programs, news bulletins and field coverage. • He also conducted many interviews with world leaders and Arab politicians, and also covered the Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000 and contributed to covering the September eleventh bombings through direct field reports from scratch in New York. • He worked as an executive producer for the program "Dunia" at Abu Dhabi TV, which was a daily magazine for two hours between 2001-2003, and worked as an executive supervisor at MBC station. In London between 1996-1999 for two major programs on the channel, "Dialogue with the West" and "Agenda".
